What Inspires Your Drive?
In my last blog about setting goals, I shared with you the excitement I felt after having completed my first duathlon, an event that included a two mile run, 13 mile bike ride, and another two mile run. What I had not yet shared with you was the root of my inspiration. What motivates a person (with two small children and a busy business) to add one more thing to her list of to-dos?
I firmly believe that my internal motivation is exponentially enhanced by the people I choose to make a part of my life, both personally and professionally. Case in point, my husband had competed in his first triathlon before I had even begun to think about taking my exercise regimen to the next level. Being the competitive person that I am, I had to show that I could keep up with him.
Another major inspiration for me is my client base. To say that my clients constantly inspire me is an understatement. Some have started their own businesses, developing technology for products that make life easier, interesting, and healthier for all of us, like Valencell, Inc. Others run non-profits, supporting important causes that are dedicated to helping others, like The Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore. They are all impassioned and determined people who hold strong visions and the desire to see them through. I can’t help but to become exhilarated and motivated from their energy.
How specifically do my clients inspire me? Let me count the ways….
- My clients are leaders with positive and enthusiastic attitudes. They have big ideas and the talent and disposition to motivate others to push beyond self-imposed limitations. They are constant reminders to establish and follow-through with my own stretch goals.
- My clients are a diverse mix. They are consistently exposing me to new ideas, leadership styles, and endless “what ifs” that sustain my rampant need for continual, lifelong learning. Each client has a different story and set of requirements that allows me to learn something from every interaction. They keep me fresh and agile.
- My clients are tenacious. Excited about the possibilities of their journey, they focus on the results to be achieved and relish the experiences that lead them to their ultimate goals and solutions. They realize and accept that one’s life and life’s work represent an exciting discovery process that pushes through adversity and fears to celebrate the gifts of success.
Their confidence in bringing me into their worlds to help them determine and execute their marketing strategies is a big part of what motivates me even after all of my years as a professional marketing executive. They are a special breed of entrepreneurial movers and shakers, and are indeed a part of the drive that ignites the FireDrive Marketing Group.
Who inspires you to reach higher, go farther or add another stretch goal to your list?
